Peabody’s Golden Banana to reopen on Monday
PEABODY-Dancers will officially return to the Golden Banana’s stage at 3 p.m. on Monday, after City Councilors Tuesday approved the gentlemen’s club’s request for an entertainment license after a lengthy process.
Part-owner Robert Depesa of D&B Corporation said he expects “quite the reception,” as many people have been calling the female strip club asking when the big day is.
“(Monday’s) not technically the grand opening,” Depesa said. “We’re having more of a soft opening. We’re saving the grand opening until after the holidays.”
Depesa said that his customers can expect a “new breed” of a gentleman’s club with state-of-the-art lighting and sound systems. The club owner also boasts a roster of over 100 dancers.
“It’s not the old Golden Banana they’re used to,” he said.
The original Golden Banana was shut down in 2003 after it failed to meet code requirements. Since then, owners have faced many obstacles in their effort to bring the building up to code, as well as keep it in compliance with the city’s adult zone designation.
But at Tuesday’s meeting, D&B Corporation’s attorney Richard Villiotte assured councilors that the building has undergone complete renovations and currently passes all safety code requirements.
Ward 5 Councilor Dave Gamache said that as long as the establishment abides by the rules set forth by the city and keeps themselves easily accessible to its neighbors, he has “no reservations.”
Villiotte said that they’ll “do whatever we can” to keep things at peace, adding that the corporation has had previous restaurant and adult entertainment experience without any violations. The license was approved 10-1, with Zellen as the only councilor voting against the business’ revival.
The Golden Banana will be open for business to those 21 years of age and over Sunday through Thursday from 3 p.m. to 1 a.m. and Friday and Saturday from 12 p.m. to 1 a.m.
